Civil Society

Participation – democracy – transparency

Democracy calls for political and social participation – something that is virtually unthinkable without an organised civil society. People come together to promote their own agenda and provide assistance where the state simply does not do enough. Organised civil society also informs the public and politicians about grievances and thus contributes to raising awareness. To ensure a strong civil society, appropriate political and social welfare frameworks are needed.

The necessary framework conditions for a strong civil society include, for example, respect for freedom of association, assembly and expression, opportunities to participate in legislative procedures and other political decision-making processes, and access to information. As an alliance of the environmental movement, ÖKOBÜRO promotes these conditions and advocates for compliance with them.
